    Framework for sustainable TVET-Teacher Education Program in Malaysia Public Universities

    Studies had stated that less attention was given to the education aspect, such as teaching and learning in planning for improving the TVET system. Due to the 21st Century context, the current paradigm of teaching for the TVET educators also has been reported to be fatal and need to be shifted. All these disadvantages reported hindering the country from achieving the 5th strategy in the Strategic Plan for Vocational Education Transformation to transform TVET system as a whole. Therefore, this study aims to develop a framework for sustainable TVET Teacher Education program in Malaysia. This study had adopted an Exploratory Sequential Mix-Method design, which involves a semi-structured interview (phase one) and survey method (phase two). Nine experts had involved in phase one chosen by using Purposive Sampling Technique. As in phase two, 118 TVET-TE program lecturers were selected as the survey sample chosen through random sampling method. After data analysis in phase one (thematic analysis) and phase two (Principal Component Analysis), eight domains and 22 elements have been identified for the framework for sustainable TVET-TE program in Malaysia. This framework was identified to embed the elements of 21st Century Education, thus filling the gap in this research. The research findings also indicate that the developed framework was unidimensional and valid for the development and research regarding TVET-TE program in Malaysia. Lastly, it is in the hope that this research can be a guide for the nations in producing a quality TVET teacher in the future

    The roles of government and leadership towards the sustainability of TVET teacher education program

    The low payment, the uncertainty in the systems’ implementation and low status given by the community are among the down factors lingers in TVET teachers. Due to this, the Malaysia government has been actively involved in tackling these issues. In order to improve the role of the government, this paper has aim to identify the domains and elements that can contribute in empowering the government’s roles for sustainability of TVET teacher education program. A qualitative research method has been selected with 10 experts involved. A semistructured interview was carried out individually and recorded for thematic analysis. There are four main domains identified namely systematic funding; constructive partnership; stand-alone politic; and visionary leadership. Each domain consists of several elements that characterized it respectively. Overall, one main theme has been identified which is well organized government. It is in a hope that the outcome of this research will help the government in planning for better future of TVET teacher education program

    Criteria for Sustainable Curriculum of TVET Teacher Education Programme in Malaysia

    The purpose of a Teacher Education programme is to produce quality teachers, especially teachers that can perform the task of teaching effectively and deliver the purpose of the National Education Philosophy, consequently leading to a sustainable TVET Teacher Education programme. One aspect that contributes to the sustainability of a programme is the curriculum. The curriculum has to be able to react with the changes took place in the workplace especially for a developing country like Malaysia. Hence, this study was carried out to explore the criteria for the sustainable curriculum of TVET Teacher Education programmes in Malaysia. A qualitative research approach was used for this study, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 experts. Utilising this approach allowed the researcher to focus on experts’ knowledge and experiences based on the issues explored. Data were analysed using thematic analysis with pencil and paper, while Microsoft Excel was used as a tool for data keeping. The study identified five main criteria for sustainability which includes i) specialization; ii) work-based design; iii) dynamic; iv) interactive teaching and learning, and v) international syllabus. It is expected that the outcome of this study will contribute towards the sustainability of TVET Teacher Education programmes in Malaysia thus improving the quality of TVET graduates to achieve the national goal of becoming a high-income nation

    Sustainability of TVET TE programme: an exploratory sequential mixed method design

    Like any other teacher education (or training) institutions, TVET Teacher-Education (TVET TE) institutions also aim to produce quality TVET educators. As a matter of fact, the development of the human resources in TVET system had been highlighted in national policies and strategic planning of every nation across the world. However, due to the development of technology and the rapid life changes , the suitability and relevancy of current TVET TE programme in producing a quality TVET educator has become questionable in the development of human resource. This problem has called for a review for the existing TVET TE programme in order to cater for the needs of the stakeholders. Therefore, this study aims to produce a framework for sustainable TVET TE programme that is capable of dealing with challenges in the 21st century. This study will take up an exploratory sequential mixed method which consists of Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) and Survey Method. FDM, which involves 12 experts in TVET TE, will be used to explore the domains and elements that are required in the framework for sustainability of TVET TE programme. The consensus of ideas among the participating experts will be analysed through the use of Triangular Fuzzy Number and Defuzzification. The drafted framework will then be validated by means of a survey method which will be involving TVET educators from several higher learning institutions in Malaysia. The data will be analysed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The analysis will be expected to produce a validated framework for sustainable TVET TE programme

    Measuring the Level of Agreement on the Development of Sustainable Framework for TVET Teacher Education Program in Malaysia

    TVET Teacher Education program in Malaysia has been established with the purpose to produce TVET teachers who capable of meeting the criteria of the 21st Century. This study is the first to investigate the agreement level of lecturers in TVET teacher education program on the development of the related sustainable framework. We developed a questionnaire to assess the level of agreement on the domain and elements needed for the sustainable framework for TVET Teacher Education program in Malaysia. We then conducted a survey involving 117 TVET Teacher Education programs lecturers in all Malaysia public universities. The data were analysed using Descriptive Analysis involving the mean score and standard deviation. The result indicates the lecturers perceived the Role of Government [M=6.11; SD = .697] as the highest domain important to the development of the sustainable framework and the Criteria of Sustainable Management System [M=5.72; SD= .843] as the lowest agreed on the importance of the domain. Moreover, the entire sustainable framework perceived a high level of agreement from the respondent. It is believed that with this sustainable framework of TVET Teacher Education program, the criteria of Malaysian TVET teacher produced can be tailored to the need of future education. We recommended that the replication of this study from different field of teacher education program in Malaysia ensure all teachers in Malaysia are qualified and versatile with future education

    Reliability and validity of instrument on academic enhancement support for student-athlete using rasch measurement model

    The purpose of this article is to develop and validate an instrument on Academic Enhancement Support for Malaysian student-athletes. The instrument development process began earlier in previous research's stages. Thirty-five questionnaires were distributed to Malaysia Public University student-athletes who competed at the university and state levels. It took a week to collect data, with a 100% return rate and one damaged questionnaire removed. Winstep version 3.69.1.11 was used to conduct three analyses: item-person reliability and separation index, statistical fit, and standardised residual correlation for item dependent. Cronbach's alpha of 0.96 indicates high reliability, with all items displaying a positive value for item polarity. Thirty items were identified as being misfit, five of which were removed and fifteen of which were revised. In the final analysis, ten pairs of items were dictated to be redundant, and ten items were eliminated following selection. In total, 15 items were removed from the instrument, leaving 82 items in the validated version. In conclusion, the instrument developed is a valid instrument capable of validating the student-perception athlete's of the support necessary for academic advancement during actual study

    Kajian ini dijalankan bagi melihat kesediaan pelajar dari aspek minat, kemahiran Bahasa Inggeris dan pengetahuan sedia ada pelajar dalam mempelajari mata pelajaran Pengajian Kejuruteran Awam di Sekolah Menengah Teknik Seri Iskandar. Kajian deskriptif berbentuk tinjauan ini melibatkan sampel kajian yang terdiri daripada 78 orang pelajar tingkatan empat sesi 2007 yang mengambil Jurusan Kejuruteraan Awam. Instrumen kajian yang digunakan dalam kajian ini ialah soal selidik kerana ia lebih praktikal dan menjimatkan masa. Nilai kebolehpercayaan instrumen kajian ini adalah _ = 0.906. Data-data mentah dianalisis menggunakan Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences 13.0 (SPSS) untuk mendapatkan frekuensi, peratus dan min. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa kesediaan pelajar dari aspek minat, kemahiran Bahasa Inggeris dan pengetahuan sedia ada dalam mempelajari mata pelajaran Pengajian Kejuruteran Awam di Sekolah Menengah Teknik Seri Iskandar berada pada tahap yang sederhana. Hasil ujian-t pula menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbezaan minat dan kemahiran Bahasa Inggeris antara pelajar lelaki dan perempuan dalam mempelajari mata pelajaran Pengajian Kejuruteran Awam. Walaubagaimanapun, terdapat perbezaan pengetahuan sedia ada antara pelajar lelaki dan perempuan dalam mempelajari mata pelajaran Pengajian Kejuruteran Awam. Kajian ini boleh menjadi panduan kepada pihak sekolah, Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri (JPN) dan Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia (KPM) untuk membantu pelajar dalam mengikuti mata pelajaran ini serta dalam mata pelajaran teknikal yang lain.     Sustainable System for TVET Teacher Education Program in Malaysia: : Fuzzy Delphi Method

    The purpose of this paper is to obtain an expert consensus on the criteria of a sustainable system for the TVET Teacher Education program in Malaysia. The sustainable system for TVET Teacher Education program in Malaysia involves item related to the three main systems identified in the previous phase, namely program system, management system, and support system. Nine experts from three leading players in TVET Teacher Education program, which is the TVET Teacher Education institution, the government and the industry was chosen to do the verification through a questionnaire containing 25 items. The consensus from the experts was further analyzed using the Fuzzy Delphi Method. The study found that expert consensus on the criteria for a sustainable system of TVET Teacher Education program is more than 75% with a total of 24 items having a threshold value (d) ≤ 0.2. The items were then sorted by priority, referring to the Fuzzy Score of each item based on the Defuzzification process. Overall, the sustainable system of TVET teacher education program will influence the quality of TVET Teacher Education graduates, which is the TVET teacher who will contribute to the quality of TVET workers in the future. Therefore, all players need to work together towards the sustainability of the program.&nbsp
